Nudura forms stay in place to provide insulation value (R24) and vapour protection. Ties are built into each block, reducing labour costs significantly over plywood. Plywood forms require all ties to be installed on the jobsite, and require stripping once the concrete has been poured. Nudura forms fold flat to reduce shipping costs and are lightweight (15 pounds for 12 ft²).
The Nudura block has rigid plastic ties that run the full height of each block and are located 8" on centre. It is easy to attach drywall to the ties using 1-1/4" drywall screws. The pullout strength of a drywall screw is 185 pounds, so there is plenty of holding capacity.
Horizontal rebar is slipped into the block every 18" on centre. Special rebar tabs make positioning a breeze. Vertical rebar is installed from the top, weaving between the horizontals at each block level.

We recommend attaching the windows to the inside face of the opening. You will need to contact your window manufacturer to ensure they supply flanges designed for this detail. We do not recommend attaching to the outside face of the ICF as this exposes the window to inclement weather. Testing shows that side mounted windows perform significantly better than surface mounted.

The area between the ground and the start of the framing is important to protect as the ICF is soft and can be damaged. We recommend attaching a strip of 1/4" Hardiboard using stainless steel screws. The area can also be parged with waterproof stucco over a fiberglass mesh.
